Daniel Higgs

Integrative Counsellor

I am an integrative counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have experience working with a wide range of mental health disorders and I am influenced by a variety of approaches that inform my work. I have worked with short term (NHS) and long-term adult clients and also with adolescents within a charity-based environment.

I recognise that all clients have different life experiences and are unique and that one approach does not fit all. I, therefore, draw on different theoretical approaches that influence how I work, dependent on their needs. I am a modern counsellor and provide counselling in a straightforward, non-judgmental, and relaxed setting. My approach encompasses a wide range of techniques such as Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I also use attachment theory within my work which focuses on the understanding of how we seek ‘proximity’, or closeness and intimacy, with people in our lives.

I offer a safe and relaxing environment for clients to explore whatever issues they may have. Each person’s experience of therapy is personal, and I like to provide a down-to-earth, forward-thinking, and solution-focused environment where I recognise that it is the relationship between the client and counsellor that is of the utmost importance.
My passion for working with young people has grown through time and I take great pride in working with this age group as I feel it is so important to give them the skills and resilience at such a crucial stage in their life. This in turn helps them approach their adult life with greater awareness and resilience to the challenges that life may throw at them.

I always ensure a high standard of care when working with clients and I always adhere to the guidelines dictated by the government bodies. I also take regular supervision which helps me evaluate my work frequently.
