Anna Hopkins

Child & Adolescent Therapist

I am a Mental Health Nurse and CBT therapist registered with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). I have over 18 years’ experience working with young people and adults who have mental health difficulties. I am passionate about helping those who want to improve their mental health.

I believe success of any therapy is rooted in the relationship built with individuals. I therefore work hard to establish a good working relationship built on care, validation, trust and being commitment to help those who want change.

My practice has moved more towards a Third Wave CBT approach, encompassing Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectal Behavioural Therapy (DBT). This allows me to be more flexible and to meet individual needs.

I consider NICE guidelines (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), NMC Code of Conduct and the BABCP regulatory standards, to ensure I work safely and ethically. I am conscientious and committed to providing high standards of care through evaluation of practice, supervision, research and life-long learning.
I have a passion for working with young people and specialise in child and adolescent psychiatry. Making a difference at key stages of development by improving mental health and offering opportunities to learn skills can lead to lifelong resilience and maintenance of good mental health across the lifespan.

I have also dedicated much time to safeguarding and teaching others about child and adult abuse. I volunteer for victim support providing therapy and support to children who have been victims of domestic abuse. I was a designated safeguarding lead for a number of years and have delivered safeguarding training for over 8 years. I am able to provide safeguarding training at level 1-4. My safeguarding experience has helped to provide trauma informed care and to respond appropriately to those who might be experiencing or have experienced abuse or neglect.
